Seller's Guide The Mark & Al Team July 7, 2025
Summer is one of the most popular times to move — and for good reason. School’s out, homes show better in sunny weather, and the real estate market is typically buzzing. But with the convenience comes the challenge: heat, high demand, and potential headaches. If you're planning a summer move, here’s how to keep cool — literally and figuratively.
Book movers early. Summer is peak season, and reputable movers fill up fast.
Aim for a morning move. Temperatures are lower and your energy is higher.
Avoid weekends and month-end dates when demand (and prices) spike.
Keep cold water, electrolyte drinks, and light snacks on hand for you and your moving crew.
Wear breathable, light-colored clothing and a hat or sunglasses for protection.
Take breaks! Heat exhaustion can sneak up fast, especially during heavy lifting.
Don’t pack heat-sensitive items like electronics, candles, or vinyl records in the truck without protection.
Transport valuables, medications, and perishables in your air-conditioned vehicle.
Label boxes that need to be opened first (e.g., fans, sheets, coolers).
Sweat and dust can lead to slips and scuffs. Use rugs, towels, or moving blankets on entryways and hallways.
Keep towels handy to wipe off moisture or protect upholstered furniture from heat exposure.
Turn on utilities a day before your move. You'll want working AC the moment you arrive.
Clean and cool your new home before moving in — especially if it’s been sitting vacant in the sun.
Consider bringing in a few portable fans or a window unit to keep key rooms comfortable during unloading.
Move them into a cool room, a friend’s house, or even a pet daycare while everything is in motion.
Moving day can be chaotic and exhausting — having a separate, calm space is safer and less stressful for them (and you!).
A summer move doesn’t have to mean sunburns and stress. With a little extra planning, you can beat the heat, stay organized, and enjoy the excitement of settling into your next chapter.
